    Site Evaluation Summary

For surgery site evaluations we met one on one over video call to discuss the H&Ps and journal article. At the first site visit I presented 2 H&Ps. The first involved a patient with epigastric/RUQ abdominal pain and jaundice and suspected choledoscholithiasis. We discussed which features of the history, exam, and testing suggested choledocholithiasis vs cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, pancreatitis, and hepatitis. After further testing the patient was diagnosed with choledocholithiasis and underwent ERCP followed by cholecystectomy. The second involved a patient with diffused abdominal pain who was diagnosed with low grade SBO on CT. The patient was treated conservatively and did not require surgery. We discussed the common causes of SBO including adhesions, herniations, and cancer.

At the second site visit I presented an ortho patient who had tibial plateau fracture after a bicycle accident. We discussed the potential for a distracting injury and the need to evaluate for further injuries including head trauma and injury to other extremities. Other injuries were ruled out based on the history and physical exam and the patient underwent ORIF. I chose to present an article that discussed the current practices for how long patients are kept non weight bearing following surgical repair of tibial plateau fractures.
